Voting Begins Today in APA Election!

Balloting has now begun in the 2013 APA election to fill six positions on the Board of Trustees. The positions up for election this year are president-elect, secretary, minority/underrepresented trustee, Area 3 trustee, Area 6 trustee, and member-in-training trustee-elect. All members for whom APA has a valid e-mail address on file will receive an electronic ballot today. For other members a paper ballot was mailed to their address of record today, along with instructions on how to vote online if they so choose. Eligible members without an electronic or paper ballot can vote online through the APA Web site, www.psychiatry.org, by using their member login. APA urges all candidates and their supporters to review APA’s updated Election Guidelines. All ballots must be returned by January 31 at 5 p.m. Eastern time. The newly elected officers and trustees will take office at the close of the 2013 annual meeting in San Francisco in May.   

"Getting good leaders is of great importance to every professional organization. However, in these challenging times it is critical for the psychiatric profession to have strong and effective persons in the key positions," emphasized APA President-elect Jeffrey Lieberman, M.D. "The next two years will be transitional years for APA as it selects and welcomes its new medical director/CEO. Thus it will be particularly important to have the best elected leadership as well. Please make sure to vote."
